One of the most unusual, yet oddly enjoyable entertainment shows, The Masked Singer, is back on our TV screens.

It’s a singing competition with a twist. Twelve famous performers in extravagant costumes that mask their identities sing a song, before judges Rita Ora, Jonathan Ross, Davina McCall and Mo Gilligan weigh up the clues and guess who they could be.

The audience votes for their favorite performances, then judges choose who to save from the bottom acts and finally, one singer is unmasked at the end of each show.

It’s all good fun and a welcome guessing game in times like these – here’s who the masked contestants are, who the judges think they could be, and in particular what we know about Swan.

Swan performed a rendition of That Don’t Impress Me Much originally sung by Shania Twain, in the first episode of the show in a particularly elaborate costume.

In the introduction video ahead of their performance, the masked singer said: “Swans might be known for being beautiful birds, but when I think of swans I think of their loyalty, their strength and their independence.”

The judges guessed it might be someone from the US, partly based on the accent and the word “independence” and other references to America.

Singer

The singer continued: “I’m definitely a loyal kind of person, it’s one of my biggest strengths. Swans enjoy certain liberty, they have the freedom to spread their wings.”

A ballroom in the background of the video provided another clue, and judge Rita Ora suggested it might be someone fromStrictly Come Dancing.

The video also featured a red carpet and cameras flashing as the contestant strutted down.

Other clues included the mention of a “calm state” and an “honoured career”, leading judges to think it could be someone who has won awards.

The singer found themselves in the bottom three in but was saved by the judges.

The judges were left stumped after the performance, with Jonathan Ross jokily suggesting it could be Meghan Markle thanks to the US references, or perhaps Gordon Ramsey as a play on the word “calm”. He eventually settled on guessing Darcey Bussell.

Rita Ora guessed it could be Michelle Visage, due to the her impressive dance moves and “big personality”.

Davina McCall suggested Swan could be Pussycat Dolls singer Kimberly Wyatt, with their height offering an additional clue.

Mo Gillian thought the singer could be Ruby Wax or another Pussycat Dolls member, Ashley Roberts.

Other guesses from the viewers include Shirley Ballas.
