Oregon Vs Washington State 2018
We’ve seen unexpected plays from Mike Leach’s Washington State team before, but this one against No. 12/11 Oregon on Saturday night was executed with a brilliant combination of trickery and pure power.
With less than five minutes left in the first quarter, the No. 25/23 Cougars lined up in a peculiar formation — and it would be confusing to just about anyone — on first-and-10 on Oregon’s 24-yard line. The ball is all the way over on the right, while Washington State quarterback Gardner Minshew and running back James Williams are to the left.
A “swinging gate” play, Minshew took the long snap and quickly passed it off to Williams, who tried to go left but was forced right and muscled his way passed the line of scrimmage. But just when it looked like he was done, Williams spun out away from the Ducks’ defenders and powered his way down the right sideline for a 24-yard touchdown.
