Real Madrid have signed a five-year front-of-shirt sponsorship deal with Dubai-based airline Emirates.

The UAE carrier, a partner of the Spanish giants since 2011, will replace previous shirt sponsor Bwin from the start of next season.

The long-rumoured deal was announced by Real president Florentino Perez at the La Liga club’s 85,000-capacity Santiago Bernabéu stadium on Thursday.

'It is an honour to link the name of Emirates to our club,” Perez said. “Our perfect partner and ally becomes our official sponsor for the next five seasons.'

The financial terms of Emirates’ contract were not released however, according to numerous reports, the deal could be worth up to €30 million (US$38.8 million) annually.

That figure would mark an increase on the US$35 million-a-year Bwin were thought to have paid, but would be significantly short of the US$79.86 million-a-season Premier League champions Manchester United will receive from Chevrolet when their deal kicks in from 2014/15.

    H. H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, chairman and chief executive of Emirates Airline and Emirates Group, added: 'This is the most successful team in the world and we will continue to support him. This new partnership will benefit the fans of Real Madrid and we want the team to come to Dubai because there are many fans who want to see the best players in the world. In January, the Dubai Football Challenge held and we want the Real Madrid participate in it. Sport has the ability to unite people and to share experiences.'
